I’ve always kind of liked the Corvette, and have even began to add them to my short list of next cars, but I never quite got them. This weekend that changed. While going around the track, I started thinking about the MSRP’s of the other cars in it’s class(well, cars that the race cars were based on). That’s when it clicked: While the Ford GT is a car you dream to own, the Corvette is a car you can plan to own. In 10 years, the GT will likely be a half million dollar car, but the current C7 will likely be available for $20k. It’s a car you can actually work to own, without tremendous amounts of luck. And that makes it special, a car that punches well above it’s weight financially.
That said, give it fucking door handles GM, or at least plug in your display cars.

I’m biased because I just bought a C5 last weekend, but I agree. The Corvette is definitely one of the best bang-for-your-buck sports cars. You get high-end performance for a very reasonable amount of money.
Another thing I like about it, it’s not so rare or so valuable that I’m afraid to take it out of the garage. I’ve been driving it exclusively for the last 5 days, and it would definitely be doable to use as a daily if needed.

You nailed the attainability and value points. But that’s only part of the story, you really need to drive one.

I daily drove my C4/LT1/6-speed vette for a couple of years until the great car exchange of 2017. It was fantastic for all the reasons above, and this one: It made a mundane trip to Walgreens go from being “damn, I have to go to Walgreens” into “cool, I get to go take the corvette for a spin and run an errand while I do so.” Every time I got into the car felt just a little bit special.

Lol, well if I can find someone to let a 23 year old drive one, I will definitely jump on that offer.

“Another thing I like about it, it’s not so rare or so valuable that I’m afraid to take it out of the garage.”
This is the most important fact to all the real drivers out there. I watched a video review of a Cobra k it c ar and the guy made the same point - the car wasn’t perfect, but the owners weren’t afraid to drive it. And it was driven.

Good luck in your search! The reward will be worth it :)
If you lived close to NJ, I would offer you a drive in the Z. It handles mild to wild so so well.

That’s about an 8 hour drive for me, but if I’m ever up there, I’ll remember that offer.

I’ve owned two Corvette’s. I had a ‘92, because C4's are great and super attainable and really great, and an ‘02 Z06, because GDMF Z06. As reliable as any Toyota, and faster than any Toyota....

Pretty sure a V6 Camry these days would outrun an L98 C4. Not that I’m saying I’d rather have the Camry, just yeah.

Noted!

Stock 2002 Z06 would do 0-60 in about 4 seconds, vs 5.1 for the supra, and blow the quarter mile in 12.7, vs 13.4 for the supra.
The LS6 takes boost well, and with less money the Corvette can be faster and handle better than any modified supra.
Yes, you should understand the Corvette.

Mine was the LT1, though....
It’s also lighter. And more Aerodynamic. And nearing 30 years old.

I could really see a C5 or C6 in a few years, especially if C5 prices keep dropping. They’re already a ton of car for the money, imagine if they drop under 10k. My biggest reservation is the gold chain and/or ‘Murcia bro stigma attached but in the grand scheme of things I really don’t care.

Huh for some reason I always thought you were older than me, turns out we’re the same age. Totally off topic, just always weird attaching things like that to internet people.

I mean, let’s compare 1993 t0 1993, the Supra was 4.6 according to C&D’s testing. The ZR1? 4.9.

Again, I would have an LT1 or even an L98 a million times before I would have a Camry, I just always get a laugh out of how many performance icons a V6 Camry is faster than.

I also look about 30, so I get that a lot.

LOL, C5's are under $10k.

Guilty!
I basically had $30K to spend on a track car that could keep pace with the local Porsche Club. I dabbled with a WRX, but the stock engine kept crapping out and going into limp mode.
Solution? Sell the WRX, put my anti-American prejudice aside, and buy as much Corvette as possible for the money:
I’m now comfortably keeping pace with Caymans and most 911’s, with dirt cheap running costs. Well worth dealing with an interior made of Happy Meal plastics.
But, yeah, the electric door handles can fuck off!

Yeah but mostly autos which is a deal breaker. I’ve seen the occasional manual a little under 10k but all the ones I’ve seen listed at that price point have been pretty questionable. At least from my searches 10-15k seems to be the going rate for a decent manual right now.

A 50th Anniversary Z06 was for sale across the street a few months back. The want was strong.

Interwebs say 5.1. Slowpra.

I laugh at how fast minivans are now. I think the Sienna has a 6 second 0-60 now????

C&D’s instrumented testing says 4.6. On top of having a stronger bottom end than a factory LS.

Well, except for the part where C&D are liars. Dirty, filthy liars.
